The Outsiders
By: S.E. Hinton
A HEROIC STORYOF FRIENDSHIP AND BELONGINGNo one ever said life was easy. But Ponyboy
is pretty sure that he's got things figured out.
He knows he can count on his brothers,
Darry and Sodapop. And he knows that he
can count on his friends - true friends who
would do anything for him, like Johnny
and Two-Bit. And when it comes to the
Socs - a vicious gang of rich kids who enjoy
beating up "greasers" like him and his
friends - he knows that he can count on
them for trouble. But one night someone
takes things too far, and Ponyboy's world is
turned upside down...
Charcters: Ponyboy the kid. Ponyboy is the kid brother to Darry and Sodapop although he is smarter and faster than both of them. He always has his head in the clouds. Johnnycakes (real name Johnny Cade) the puppy who's been kicked one to many times. His parents abuse him when they're drunk. He is the pet of the group and worships the ground Dally walks on. Dally (real name Dallas Winston) the trouble maker. He's always in the cooler (aka jail). He has something sarcastic about him that always makes the fuzz (aka police) supect him. Sodapop Curtis he's sweet and funny and girls come to him like flies to honey. He has the appearnce of a Greek god and loves to joke with his buddy Two-Bit. Two-Bit (real name Keith) always a wise cracker and has to get his two-bits in. Darry (real name Darrel) the oldest and 'wiseist'. Is always on Pony for having his head in the clouds. Cherry (Sherry) Valance, the Soc. She is friends with Pony.,
Plot: Third time reading this book and it's still amazing. I think anyone can relate to it because it's so in tune to real life. I mean people don't get in many gang fights anymore but still. I have cried while reading the book and watching the movie but it's not to sad, just meaningful.
First Thoughts: My mom read this in highschool and she got if off ebay or something cause she wanted me to read it. I was a bit effy about it at first but I fell in love. Reading it now that I'm older I understand it a lot better though.
Ending Impressions: : ( then ( : As sad as it ended it ended well. Pony lived well even if it took suffering for it to click. Everyone in the book learned something some way or another.
Writing Style: I liked that it was written from a younger prespective. And I like it was written from a boy prespective. A fourteen year old boy's mind is really intresting about what he thinks. Espically when he's a dreamer. You get to learn a lot about him and life.
Rating: ***** One of the best books ever.
